Going for the Gold...(Again...)

Before Set Up:
After Set Up:

The cake I did for my parents' 50th anniversary led to this order. (Nope; it's not the same cake...3-tiered this time instead of 4-tiered...just count 'em.) This time I painted the bows with a paintbrush with the vodka/luster dust mixture instead of spraying them with my handy-dandy airbrush...
-
Lesson learned: spraying gives a nicer, more even finish.
-
Oh well, I was still pleased overall; and customer was very happy.

By the way, I want to thank you Rebecca Sutterby. One of the handiest things I learned in your cake decorating class is to use the 1/2" foam board under each cake tier. Not only does it make for a much sturdier support than the thin cardboard I used to use; it also makes for a much nicer (taller) proportioned cake! Makes a big difference in the aesthetics in my opinion...great tip!
